The objective of the playgroup sessions is to expose young children to the Chinese language while cultivating a fun and enjoyable association with Chinese learning. We believe that children learn best through play and that young children with a positive experience of Chinese learning are far more likely to enjoy learning Chinese and successfully acquire the language later in life.

Content & Materials

Our materials are uploaded onto our website at least 4 days before class. It includes printable flashcards and other materials required for the playgroup. You will be given a password to access the materials. Weekly emails will also be sent to give parents more information about the next week’s playgroup.

Sometimes parents may be asked to prepare some materials beforehand (e.g., cutting printable templates, preparing paint or recycled materials.)

The playgroup sessions include:

1) Welcome song (individual greeting)

2) Storytelling

3) Games (using flashcards)

4) Singing & dancing

5) Activities (craft/ Science experiment/ baking etc)

6) Goodbye song

Capacity

Each playgroup session has a capacity of 9 children (excluding siblings). Siblings are welcome to join in for FREE!

Duration

The duration of our interactive playgroup sessions are around 60 minutes long. Young children's attention span lasts for 3–8 minutes, so there will be a series of different short activities to capture their attention.

Schedule

Mandarin Tree operates 4 terms of 13 weeks during the year. Within each term, there will be 10 lessons scheduled. For details of the term calendar, click here.

Mode of lesson delivery

Sessions take place on Zoom. 5 days before the commencement of playgroup, you will be sent a Zoom link and password, which will be used for all 10 sessions.

For extra security, a password is required to enter the meeting room and everyone will be admitted into a virtual waiting room before being allowed in manually.
