Our teaching pedagogies
At Mandarin Tree, we believe each child learns differently and draw inspiration from the theory of multiple intelligence developed by Howard Gardner. This is why we incorporate multiple intelligence modalities in our curriculum. The programmes offered by Mandarin Tree are taught using teaching methods that span the musical, visual, interpersonal, bodily-kinesthetic, naturalistic, logical, intrapersonal and verbal-linguistic modalities.
Through these different modalities, our students are exposed to different aspects of traditional Chinese culture and language. This is done mainly through play, hands on, active and fun activities.
At Mandarin tree, we also aim to move past traditional rote learning to meaningful learning. We believe that optimal learning through play happens when the activity is fun, helps the child find meaning in what they are doing or learning, involves active engaged minds, social interaction and iterative thinking. The selection of these characteristics is based on the theory presented by Hirsh-Pasek, Zosh, Golinkoff, Gray, Robb, & Kaufman (2015) .
